The book of Hebrews was written to believers who were under pressure and tempted to drift. Its message is simple: Hold fast to Jesus—because Jesus is better.
Many were Jewish believers who had grown up with the temple, sacrifices, and priesthood.
• Those traditions were familiar, respected, and socially safe.
But following Jesus had begun to cost them something.
They were facing:
• Social pressure
• Religious opposition
• Persecution and public shame
Hebrews tells us some had already:
• Endured suffering
• Had their property seized because of their faith (Hebrews 10:32–34)
So the temptation wasn’t to stop believing in God.
The temptation was to drift back to what was familiar and safer.
Back to the temple.
Back to the rituals.
Back to the old system.
Everything they were tempted to return to was only a shadow.
• Jesus is the reality.
He is:
• Better than the prophets
• Better than the angels
• Better than Moses
• Better than the priesthood
• Better than the sacrifices
• Better than the covenant
The message of Hebrews is clear:
• Don’t drift
• Don’t go back
• Hold fast to Christ
Because Jesus is better.
