Hebrews 11:1-3

What does it actually mean to have faith? Is it just positive thinking? Is it convincing yourself everything will work out? For millions of people, faith feels like something they are supposed to have but never quite understand. This teaching digs into the biblical definition of faith and what it really looks like to trust God in everyday life.

Drawing from Hebrews 11:1, we explore what the original Greek word hupostasis actually means and why faith is better understood as a foundation than a feeling. Faith is not hocus pocus. It is not manufacturing belief to get God to do what you want. It is standing on the solid ground of what God has already said, even when you cannot see the outcome yet.

We also tackle one of the biggest misconceptions about faith: that invisible means imaginary. Oxygen is invisible. Radio waves are invisible. Germs are invisible. None of them needed your belief to exist. The same is true of God. Human inability to see something has never been proof that it does not exist.

We walk through the famous hall of faith in Hebrews 11 and discover that the point is not how incredible these men and women were. The point is how faithful their God is. Abel, Enoch, Noah, Abraham, Sarah, and Moses all acted on what God said before they could see the result. And He is the same God today.

We also address why intellectual faith alone is not enough. If someone can argue you into believing something, someone else can argue you out of it. Real faith is rooted in a genuine encounter with the living God, not just a theological position.

Finally, we look at how to pray when you are struggling to believe, using the example of the father in Scripture who cried out 'Lord, help my unbelief.' That is not a failure of faith. That is faith.
