Haggai 2:15-23

This sermon from Haggai 2:15-23 focuses on God's promise to bless His people 'from this day forward' as they commit to rebuilding the temple. Pastor Chad emphasizes that God's blessings often begin unseen before becoming undeniable, and that obedience positions us to receive what Christ has already secured. The message highlights how God reminded Israel of their past struggles when they neglected His house, but promised future blessing as they turned back to Him in obedience.

The sermon concludes by connecting Zerubbabel's role as God's 'signet ring' to Jesus Christ, who is the ultimate fulfillment of God's covenant promises. The key takeaway is that God is faithful to His covenant even when we fail, and that through Christ, we can draw a line in the sand and experience God's blessing from this day forward.

Key Verses: Haggai 2:15-23; Genesis 15; Matthew 1:12-13

Application & Reflection

Whether it's a spiritual discipline, relationship issue, financial obedience, or ministry commitment, take a concrete step of faith and trust God to bless your obedience even before you see the results.

  • Pastor Chad mentioned times when we say 'from this point forward, something's got to change.' Can you share about a time in your life when you reached that turning point?
  • In verses 16-17, God asks 'How did you fare?' when they were doing things their own way. How do you recognize when you're trying to do life in your own strength versus relying on God?
  • The sermon states that 'God can't bless what we refuse to surrender.' What areas of your life do you find most difficult to surrender to God's control?
  • God promised to bless them even though 'the seed is still in the barn' - before they saw any results. How do you maintain faith when you don't see evidence of God's work in your situation?
  • The message emphasized that 'obedience positions us to experience what Christ already secured.' How does this change your motivation for obedience compared to trying to earn God's favor?
  • Zerubbabel never became king, yet God's promise was fulfilled through Jesus in his lineage. How does this encourage you when God's promises seem delayed or different than expected?
  • Pastor Chad said 'failure is not final - it's what we do after we fall down that makes a difference.' How have you seen this truth play out in your own life or others?
  • What would it look like for you to 'draw a line in the sand' and say 'from this day forward' things will be different in your walk with God?

Prayer

Lord Jesus, thank You for being our faithful King who cannot be shaken. Thank You that Your covenant love never fails, even when we do. As we leave this time together, help us to remember that our hope is anchored in You, not in our own efforts or circumstances. Give us courage to draw lines in the sand where needed and to walk in obedience, trusting that You will bless us even before we see the results. Help us to surrender those areas we've been holding back and to position our hearts to receive all that You have for us. May we live each day knowing that through Christ, blessing has already begun. In Your precious name we pray, Amen.
