Colossians 3:1-11
Why Colossians was written:
The church at Colossae was under attack from false teachers who were insulting the deity of Jesus; they were teaching that He was not actually God. Paul addressed these issues head-on.

Today we examine the old self and how to terminate the old ways.
Our New Focus (3:1-4)

Seek things above: Focus on godly things and set your mind on things above.
The Terminator (3:5-6)
If you want to deal with sin in your life, here's how.

If you're going to kill sin, you've got to stop lust with a determined strike… Abstain from fleshly lusts.

a) Do not allow room for the flesh and its lusts.
b) Fix your heart on Christ.
c) Meditate on God's Word.
d) Be constantly in prayer.

Leave These Behind (3:7-10)

The old habits, attitudes and ideas of the old life before we were Christians- it’s totally inappropriate for us to continue in the old life if we are born again "in Christ"

Romans 6:6-7, 11-14
How do I apply this?

Seek things above: Focus on godly things, and set your mind on things above

Put to death worldly behavior

Speak truthfully to each other

Remember who you are: Remember your position as a Christian who is set free from sin, your purpose as someone who loves God, and your practice of putting away sin with the help of the Holy Spirit

Remember who you are in Christ:

Power Text: (3:11)
NLT 11 In this new life, it doesn’t matter if you are a Jew or a Gentile, circumcised or uncircumcised, barbaric, uncivilized, slave, or free. Christ is all that matters, and he lives in all of us.
Final thoughts:

We are All in This Together (3:11)

“He’ll be back.”
